“US Italia Weekly” is the first weekly—in English and
with national circulation—focused on Italy and its
relationship to the United States in the fields of politics,
culture, economy, science, and current affairs.
Directed by Stefano Vaccara, the new weekly aims to reach
millions of American readers, Italian and non-Italian alike,
who are unsatisfied with the quality of the information
available to them in English. It offers at the same time an
American perspective on Italy and an Italian perspective on
America.
The first issue contains articles by Stanton Burnett (CSIS,
Washington), Danielle Gardner, Giancarlo Mazzucca (Quotidiano
Nazionale), Sergio Romano (Corriere della Sera), Alberto
Pasolini Zanelli (Il Giornale), and Vittorio Zucconi (La
Repubblica). It will be enriched with illustrations by Monica
Incisa andMatteo Pericoli. The topics covered include:
Church-State relations in Italy; Hillary vs. Condy in the
“impossible match” for the White House; and an interview
with conductor Riccardo Muti after his farewell from the La
Scala opera house of Milan.
“US Italia Weekly” will provide news analysis,
investigative reports, in-depth stories and columns written by
a group of some of the most authoritative Italian and American
journalists and pundits. It brings together authors from
various walks of life and representatives of different
political orientations.
Their comments will deal not only with Italy and the United
States, but also with other parts of the world.
The chair of the “US Italia
Publishing Corporation” is Mariuccia Zerilli-Marimò, and
the executive vice president is Giampaolo Pioli.
“USItalia Weekly” is located in New
York on the 59th Floor of the Empire State Building (350 Fifth
Avenue). It is printed in color and will have correspondents
from throughout the United States. It will come out on Sundays
as an insert in America Oggi, and will be sold at newsstands
for the rest of the week at the cover price of $1.50. The web
version will be available on-line starting October 30 (www.usitalia.info).
“USItalia Weekly” will be presented at
6:00 pm on Friday, October 28, at the Casa Italiana of New
York University (22 West 12th Street, New York, tel.
212-998-8739). The speakers will include Stanton Burnett,
Alberto Pasolini Zanelli, and Vittorio Zucconi.
